R22 (Freon) Phase-Out

All good things must come to an end and that time has come for R22 cooling units in New York and New Jersey. Most commonly known as Freon, R22 refrigerant and air conditioning units have been commonly installed for over 40 years but now must be upgraded or replaced. The EPA is phasing out R22 as a cooling agent and Spring Air HVAC is happy to provide guidance to you during the process. Most customers discover that their cooling units can only use R22 and can no longer be repaired or refilled.

In cases such as that, we recommend installing AC or refrigeration units using a coolant called “Puron.” These new high-efficiency cooling systems do not cause ozone damage and produce cooler air than R22 units. Puron units are non-toxic and considered to be less harmful to the environment than R22. Freon was banned from production in 2020 and is no longer being widely produced meaning it will be in short supply soon. If you have any questions regarding your air conditioner or refrigeration unit, please do not hesitate to reach out to us for a consultation.
